On August 1, 2011, Kissito assumed ownership and operations of the Sipara Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Ethiopia’s capital of Addis Ababa with a plan to make it into an East African Center of Excellence. Kissito draws from a wealth of expertise in transforming facilities to implement a revitalized Operational Plan for Sipara. Starting end of October, Kissito will relocate Sipara into a gorgeous new building–with an elevator, which the current location lacks–to better serve patients.

The day dawned as another, 72 degrees and breezy with a high chance of mosquito bites. Our 45 minute commute from Mbale to Bugobero was not any different than any other morning, racing past boda-bodas and flying around pot holes. We pulled up to the hospital where there were approximately 200 patients waiting and got straight to work. We checked for medicine stock, put on our gloves and assembled triage equipment.
